DIY giant pill bottle lamp
Make your own with a 3D printed lid and an orange vase!
I love lamps.
Lol.
I do, though! I think because in addition to being functional, out of all home decor items, lamps are the most likely to be unique or novelty.
Even a normie can have a novelty lamp in their home without it feeling out of place.
Plus, it’s so fun to play with light. Lamps bring so much to a space.
I’m obsessed with the IKEA giant matchstick lamp, but I didn’t nab one for $39, and I’m not willing to pay literally 10x the retail price to the resellers!
So I set out to design my own oversized-everyday-object lamp, and chose the lowly *hero* orange pill bottle as my inspiration.
I found an existing orange vase and rendered a lid to fit in SketchUp, and my brother kindly printed it for me. It’s available here for free/donation :)

For the inside, I made resin pills with a soap mold.
I don’t love them. They look like…soap.
So my next update to the lamp will be using a capsule shaped eclair mold, which I’m hoping will read more pill!
Instructions

Instructions 💊
The instructions for this project are super simple, so I feel a little silly making this its own section:
print the lid
screw the lamp base into the lid
screw in the bulb
put the lid on
The end! The rest of the customization is up to you.
Be careful screwing the lamp base in, since the lid is hollow there’s very little for it to grip into. Glue would be fine to augment or substitute for screws.
If you’re a Cricut person you can put your logo on the lid, and if you love working with resin, which I DO NOT, you can make some very cool custom pills.
p.s.
While looking at novelty lamps, I discovered the IKEA Flabb from 2003, which I think should be the next thing I make.
ITS LIPS OPEN AND CLOSE! It’s giving Game Changer season 1, Nom Nom Nom!
